Allen, Alabama's Gay Demoniser at it again

Allen, Alabama's Gay Demoniser at it again

Representative Gerald Allen, a Republican who has successfully waged a war on gay marriage now wants to remove books from school and public libraries that have gay characters or suggest being gay is okay.

If his bill became law, public school textbooks could not present views on homosexuality, college theatre groups would not be able to perform plays like "Cat On A Hot Tin Roof" a Tennessee Williams classic or The Laramie Project, and public school libraries could not have books like "The Color Purple."

The bill, Allen says should be ready for the 2005 session of the legislature but admits he has to work out the methodology to be used in defining and then banning the objectionable material and or programs.

Any literary work written by a gay author would be banned from pubic and school libraries. Textbooks that reference homosexuality as an alternative lifestyle also would not be allowed. As mentioned above, theatre's receiving any public monies could not perform productions written by or with gay content.

When asked how Allan would get rid of the books he said,"I guess we dig a big hole and dump them in and bury them."

With this logic, too bad Allen's Mother did not practice abstinence.
